Dyson approached G.T. Tools with a request to make a tool which would mould plastic components more quickly and economically for its famous Dyson DC01 vacuum cleaner.
Project managers from G.T. Tools worked closely with Dysons technical team to develop a tool almost half the weight of its predecessor. Using the latest 3D technology the team succeeded in achieving a major reduction in the weight of the tool devised to help manufacture the vacuum cleaners upright body.

In addition to achieving a far lighter weight tool, Dyson benefited from G.T. Tools expertise in design and manufacture in a number of key areas. Significant cost savings were achieved as the tool developed was more versatile due to its weight enabling it to fit smaller moulding machines.
Significant improvements were made to five other tools in the suite, including one tool produced one week faster than any other competitor could offer. As the domestic appliance market becomes increasingly competitive, its vital that manufacturers find ways of reducing overheads. Reducing tool manufacturing costs and lead times not only enables domestic appliance manufacturers to claw back revenue, it also means they can be ahead of the game by bringing a product to market before their competitors.
